ACS-Media Arts,  Round Worlds, Undergraduate Lab

This three unit lab course included students from the Master of Architecture Program, Bachelor of Architecture program, and the ACS-Media Arts program.  The course introduced students to procedural modeling using code to generate three-dimensional form.  Students used Processing.py, Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper, and Blender all with the common language of Python. Stutdents were asked to investigate the formal potential of the simple equation of the Unit Sphere to produce an endless variety of “Round Things”.  The final project for the semester asked students to develop a plug-in with a simple user interface for Rhinoceros 3D.  These plug-ins where then distributed to other students outside of the class and the results were collected as a series of .obj and .png files.  This excercise asked students to consider the question of authorship as it pertains to software and design.
